A Return!

The Doctor, Donna, The Tardis
I've finally decided to come back to post in this journal. I have been lurking on LJ, but my new-found love for Doctor Who has encouraged me to actually come back and post. I'm looking for people to discuss the episodes with, and I realized I can't discuss episodes if I don't post anything about them. Shyness, be gone!

I got into Doctor Who thanks to NewWho. My first episode was The Empty Child, which I think ruined me for a lot of the episodes because it was so excellent. I've only seen one classic series arc (The Dead Planet, with the First Doctor), but I can't wait to see more; I'm sure the hiatus will provide an excellent catching-up period.

I wanted to get out some thoughts about Episode 4.12 before the next episode airs, but I'm putting them behind a cut for spoilers, just in case anyone actually sees this.

Spoilers for everything up to and including Episode 4.12 of Doctor Who, and speculation for 4.13 )

This episode featured RTD's weaknesses (plot development and over-the-top melodrama), and didn't really feature his strengths (clever dialogue and character portrayal). A disappointingly lame and incoherent effort. Here's hoping he surprises me with the next episode!

Happy New Year!

May this year be better than the last (man 2006 sucked).

Wow, it's been a ridiculously long time since I've posted here. Been mostly busy lately with Christmas-related activities. So, Merry Christmas (belated) and happy winter solstice (belated) as well! It's good to know the year's finally turned 'round again, and that we're halfway through the dark part of the year. Sometimes it's nice to have darkness, as it gives the year balance, but the fact that it does end makes it possible to celebrate it, I think. :)

I seriously need to be on top of things. I guess I'm having a little trouble deciding what to post. Mostly I like to use the account to post comments and follow communities. Still not entirely sure how to meet people here... perhaps I will figure that out soon (I hope)!

Random observation

The Doctor, Donna, The Tardis
I was watching the b5 season 2 blooper reel via YouTube, and I noticed something really odd. Bruce Boxleitner has the exact same laugh as my grandfather. They both do this sort of punctuated "Ha HA HA!" It's quite uncanny. I sent the link to my brother, and he agreed: exactly the same, and totally creepy. I'll never be able to hear my grandpa laugh now without thinking of Sheridan. Amusing, but the juxtaposition is a bit odd...

The Doctor, Donna, The Tardis
I finally decided to get a livejournal. I've been lurking around for a while now, viewing various communities. I kept wanting to comment, but didn't because I didn't have an account, so I figured that I should just join already! :)

I've mostly been lurking around the Babylon 5 fandom, as it's the show closest to my heart, but I like almost everything science fiction or fantasy related. Besides B5, I especially love Firefly, Lord of the Rings, and all books by Ursula K. Le Guin. And, of course, the almost-obligatory Star Wars and Star Trek. I'm looking forward to hopefully being able to meet other people and to geek out over sci-fi stuff. :)
